In this planning, preparation and leadership module you will learn all the aspects of preparing for and managing a descent. To prepare for a descent we should understand the environment we are exploring and the potential risks associated with it.
This module covers knowledge in geology and hydrology as well as meteorology. Understanding the weather and the effect it will have on canyon environments is very important and fundamental as a leader or independent canyoneer. We will look at canyon grading systems, guidebooks, weather and team selection. We also have a great resource for creating a trip plan and understanding basic navigation.
Knowing what equipment to take on your descent is very important. This module looks in depth into personal and team equipment, its standards, what to take and how to look after it. This is a great module to start your learning alongside ‘personal movement and safety’. These two modules combined are a great way to start out your canyoning learning.
