In this rigging and knotcraft module you will learn the fundamental skills and techniques along with the theory of setting up canyoning rope systems, understanding anchors and knotcraft. The module initially looks at knots you will need to add to your canyoning ‘tool box’ to be efficient and safe when rigging rope systems in the canyon.
Rigging is a key skill for any canyoneer. It's what sets you apart from being a lead team member to an independent rope technician and potential leader. This module looks at the principles behind anchors. How to identify them and use them effectively, whether they are natural or ‘man made’. You will learn how to set up traverse lines and different types of releasable rappel systems. The module also covers how to set up a guided rappel and use human anchors effectively.
To get the most out of this module we recommend you have a basic knowledge of knotcraft and have an understanding of movement on rope. Or you have taken the ‘personal movement and safety’ module.
